Barrington Middle School And High School Ski Club
These are 2 separate Ski Clubs in Barrington Il. I've found it frustrating getting info, so I'm sharing what I know here. (These notes are from fall'2012.)
Key 2 pages of info: <http://www.barringtonparkdistrict.org/Programs/documents/Ski Club_000.pdf>
== What do they have in common? ==
They go to the same places at the same time. But they ride in separate buses, registration is different, etc.
- Fri 1/18/13 Alpine Valley 4:45–11:00pm
- Fri 1/25/13 Wilmot 4:45–10:30pm (closer of the 2)
- Fri 2/1/13 Alpine Valley 4:45–11:00pm
- Fri 2/8/13 Wilmot 4:45–10:30pm
- Fri 2/15/13 Cascade Mountain 7:30am–7:30pm (that's a Friday when there's no school)
The options for renting equipment are:
- rent at each event/location for ~$20 each time, but have to wait in line at start/end of each event; or
- rent from Viking shop in advance in Barrington, $200 for the entire season.
== Barrington High School Ski Club ==
Only 12-25 kids go.
Just a simple Barrington Park District activity.
You don't have to attend an info/registration meeting.
There's a simple 1-page registration form.
- <http://barringtonparkdistrict.org/Programs/documents/B H S Ski Club Registration Form.pdf>
You have to decide/pay in advance which dates you're registering for.
You turn in the registration form at the Park office after Dec01'2012.

I found the "handbook" of info: http://www.barringtonparkdistrict.org/Programs/documents/Parent-StudentHandbook2012.pdf
~300 kids go each trip.
You have to attend a registration meeting Nov14 or Nov29, or risk not having a space for you.
There's a 4-page registration/waiver/code-of-conduct form to fill out (code must be signed by student as well as parent).
- <http://www.barringtonparkdistrict.org/Programs/documents/BMS Ski Club Registration Forms 2012.pdf>
For each trip there's a separate sign-up process the Tuesday before. At time of registration you get a set of trip-specific forms, which you send along with the kid and a check (or exact cash) for them to turn in at lunch Tuesday.
Parent must chaperone 1 trip, or else pay $125. (You give $125 check at time of registration, and they rip it up when you do your duty.) You pick the date to chaperone at the time of registration. If you want to change after that, it's up to you to swap with someone else.
- Key role of chaperones seems to be to manage the buses - there are 5 chaperones on each bus to manage headcount process, etc. (and prevent bullying). Also generally available at the ski site, but not with any apparent responsibilities.
- Chaperone can ski for free (but needs to rent-or-bring equipment).
