Chicago Beach
At some point will drive the family from Barrington Il to a Chicago beach.
Note sure whether to do an in-city beach or north-of-city suburb beach (Lake Forest, etc.)
Needs parking and shower/toilet facilities.
- note only 3 Chicago beaches have full-service restaurants (not sure how much that matters)
Yelp page includes northern - Wilmette, Evanston
Evanston beaches - good view of chicago beaches! $8/person http://www.yelp.com/search?cflt=beaches&find_loc=Evanston%2C+IL
Rogers Park beaches
- Loyola/Leone - At 8 blocks long, Loyola Leone Beach is the largest in Chicago. Kid friendly with a play lot and stroller beach mats
Lincoln Park beaches:
-
Osterman beach - popular, but no parking
-
Montrose Ave Beach is a huge plot of sand that goes unfilled all summer long because it is just a little further away from downtown Chicago. There is plenty of parking near the beach. Has full restaurant.
-
North Ave Beach - good view of city; largest lifeguard staff and is home to the most developed beachhouse. Has full restaurant. We went here. Very small parking lot, but the weather was bad enough to not make that a problem!
-
Oak Street - If you are driving to the beach from out of town there are several parking lots along Lake Shore Drive with a pedestrian bridge leading straight to the beach. Has full restaurant.
-
Ohio Street Beach - Next to Navy Pier. Only a sliver of sand?
-
on a busy day, settle for parking at the Wilson Ave lot
Burnham Park beaches
