BraZil is a "big" user of EthanOl for Auto Mobile use.
Vinod Khosla is investing in EthanOl production.
Bruce Sterling provides lots of links, and seems to be in favor of it.
[Tim Carney] on Environmental Ism concerns with EthanOl. While some scientists find that making ethanol uses more energy than it yields, scientist Marcelo Dias de Oliveira, disagrees. But looking at the full "Ecological Footprint," taking into account cropland used, water consumed, and other secondary factors to the ethanol process, Oliveira found that ethanol is a net drag on the planet.
Tom Evslin's (Oct'2006) meta-analysis supports EthanOl.
Feb'2008: changing his mind? Using a worldwide agricultural model to estimate emissions from land use change, we found that corn-based ethanol, instead of producing a 20% savings, nearly doubles greenhouse emissions over 30 years and increases Greenhouse Gas-es for 167 years. BioFuel-s from switchgrass, if grown on U.S. corn lands, increase emissions by 50%. This result raises concerns about large biofuel mandates and highlights the value of using waste products.
