James Altucher gives his summer reading Book List. I divided it along the lines of the Daily Practice (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) plus a few other fun categories that I think are relevant.

FaceBook has announced a number of OpenGraph protocol pieces, including a MicroFormat vocabulary. Not too likely to support a real Open Social Networking Model. The rumors were that the leading social network would launch a "LikeButton" for the entire Web. Instead, Zuckerberg & Co. unveiled a bold and visionary new platform that cannot be ignored.

A digital native is a person who has grown up with digital technology such as computers, the Internet, mobile phones and MP3. A digital immigrant is an individual who grew up without digital technology and adopted it later. A digital native might refer to their new "camera"; a digital immigrant might refer to their new "digital camera". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_native (more)

Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Wednesday announced a new nonprofit partnership, known as EdX, to offer free online courses from both universities. Harvard’s involvement follows MIT’s announcement in December that it was starting an open online learning project, MITx.

Dale Dougherty on Learning by Making (Maker). *At an educational workshop where I made my case for making, there were a number of rather skeptical educational bureaucrats who kept asking how we assess or measure something that’s experiential. How do we measure engagement? I was rather frustrated, to be honest. How do we know children are learning if we can’t test it? I put it back to them: “How do we know what we’re testing is real learning?” I continued to think about the questions for several months. Then one day I had it in a sentence. “Making creates evidence of learning.” (more)

Michael Ellsberg challenges the Passive Income mentality. As soon as your customers realize that you don’t care about them (which you don’t, if you’re trying to get away from them as fast as possible), they will eventually go elsewhere, to someone else who actually does care about them and their needs... None of these people I’ve talked to who have this temporarily successful lifestyle seem very happy (Authentic Happiness). They actually seem kind of restless and lost... I’ve spent the last year interviewing millionaire and billionaire entrepreneurs for my forthcoming book The Education Of Millionaires. All of them could, theoretically, step away from the businesses they’ve created. Yet, they’re so passionate about their businesses and the value they’re creating in the world, they mostly choose not to.
