How We Got 10 Million Teens to Read Fiction on Their Phones (more)

John Ohno: everybody sort of knows that DARPA was responsible for funding the research that led to the internet, but what people largely don't know is that this was part of a big chunk of funding approved in 1957/1958 for blue-sky research into improving STEM education. (more)

MarkSafranski: my eclectic summer reading. First on deck is the graphic novel VERISSIMUS by DonaldJRobertson. (more)

Steven Johnson: The Blind Spot. In the very first installment of this series on creative workflows, I talked about the early obsession I had during my college years with HyperCard (more)

Eliot Peper: Writing is a Tool for Making New Ideas. Some writers love planning... But for me, reading and writing feel surprisingly similar: I discover the story as I go. (more)

Cedric Chin: Product Validation Frameworks are Useless Without Taste. Product validation methodologies consist of two parts: an explicitly followable process, and a tacit component that may be best described as ‘having good product judgment’, or ‘product taste’. (see earlier (2021-03-21) Chin Product Development As Iterated Taste) (more)

Taylor Pearson training course, which is my primary structure for goal-setting from this week to 25-years out. https://taylorpearson.me/tee/ (more)

Steven Johnson's new project is Findings for Social Reading. At its core, Findings is a service that allows you to capture, store, search, and share small snippets of text from eBooks and web pages. It integrates Kindle highlights and web clippings (with more input options to come.) And it gives you the ability to share those quotes with your peers, as well as follow other people’s quotes through your timeline. (more)

aka Robert Haisfield - "behavioral product strategist and gamification designer" https://robhaisfield.com/ (more)

Enjoyed playing it a lot in High School, except in marching band (which I was drafted into), and also carrying the bloody thing home for over a mile. (more)

Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) is a W3C recommendation designed for representation of thesauri, classification schemes, taxonomies (taxonomy), subject-heading systems, or any other type of structured controlled vocabulary. SKOS is part of the Semantic Web family of standards built upon RDF and RDFS, and its main objective is to enable easy publication and use of such vocabularies as linked data. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Knowledge_Organization_System

Chris Aldrich: Creating a commonplace book or zettelkasten index from Hypothes.is tags. I thought it might be useful to have a relatively complete list of cross linked topical headings in my digital notebook (currently Obsidian) which is a mélange of wiki, zettelkasten, journal, project management tool, notebook, and productivity tool (more)

Chris Aldrich: Reframing and simplifying the idea of how to keep a Zettelkasten. Hopefully this distillation will get you moving in a positive direction for having a useful daily practice, but without an excessive amount of work and perhaps a bit less cognitive dissonance. (more)

Chris Aldrich: A note taking problem and a proposed solution. tl;dr It’s too painful to quickly get frequent notes into note taking and related platforms. Hypothes.is has an open API and a great UI that can be leveraged to simplify note taking processes (more)

Chris Aldrich: Call for Model Examples of Zettelkasten Output Processes. Very little of the discussion or examples I’ve seen in online fora, social media, websites, and the blogosphere is focused on actively using them for creating actual long form output. (more)

Chris Aldrich: Webmention for TiddlyWiki to enable website to website notifications and communication. I’m going to focus on using a third party service to do all of the heavy lifting and code our behalf. It’s relatively common, especially in the static website space, for websites to rely on third party or publisher services to either send or receive Webmentions on their behalf (more)
