John Robb: Packetized Media. The media we produce and consume is rapidly getting more granular and dynamic. (more)
Simon Owens: The media has entered a less-is-more era. Meta (facebook) and nearly every other major tech platform are sending less and less traffic to publishers, and programmatic advertising adtech has demonstrated a consistent ineptitude at generating meaningful revenue for high-quality outlets. Lots of people seem to be liking Task Paper, which gives you a (MacOs X) GUI To-Do List based on SmartAscii. All of your information is stored in a simple text file that is easy to take with you on the go, and edit when Task Paper isn't available. Even on Windows. When Task Paper opens your file, it auto formats the content to look good and provides lots of enhancements for quickly editing and viewing the content. (kinda a One Page Wiki with Editing Wiki Nodes Inline)
Technorati has a new Technorati Tags Folksonomy tag-tracking system which integrates across Del.icio.us, FlickR, some WebLog engines, and SocialText wiki's that use Category tags (though I haven't found any examples of this yet). (more)

The Cicadas Are Coming. Let’s Eat Them! Lai plans to serve the cicadas in a paella, on a pizza, and as a sushi ingredient. He’s going to make some using indigenous preparation methods, too. “Cicadas taste a bit like nuts, as many insects do, but with every bite, my nose is reminded of popcorn, too,” he says. (more)
Anders Thoresson on Note-taking, note-thinking, AI, and peripheral vision. If all you do is store quotes, you are only getting halfway, or probably even less. I want to put my notes to work, to use them (more)

The Earth Will Feast on Dead Cicadas. Brace yourselves, Illinoisans: A truly shocking number of cicadas are about to live, make sweet love, and die in a tree near you. Two broods of periodical cicadas—Brood XIX on a 13-year cycle and Brood XIII on a 17-year cycle—are slated to emerge together in central Illinois this summer for the first time in over two centuries (more)
You'll Eat Bugs. These Investors Are Betting Millions on It. Greg Sewitz and Gabi Lewis are used to people laughing at them. Three years ago the two college roommates ordered two boxes of live crickets off the Internet, the sort you might feed your pet iguana. They promptly shoved the two shoebox-sized containers of insects into the freezer. Later, they ground the tiny frozen corpses in a blender and, using Lewis' own recipe, made a batch of protein bars that replaced whey powder with cricket dust. (more)
Tony Ulwick: Jobs-to-be-Done Is For More Than Just Milkshakes. Milkshake Marketing was designed as a tool for marketing, not innovation. (more)
Tony Ulwick: Customer Segmentation Is Soured by Milkshake Marketing. In Clayton Christensen’s well-publicized milkshake marketing video and HBR article “Marketing Malpractice: The Cause and the Cure,” he proposes executing customer segmentation differently: around the job-to-be-done... his milkshake marketing example is fundamentally flawed. The flaws show just how hard it is to apply jobs-to-be-done thinking correctly. (more)
Ashivom Bandaralum: The text and the code go hand in hand. Sometimes I hear of “opinionated” software... What happens if the software turns out to be something the author of a site wrote for themselves? It’s more than opinionated. It’s personal. (more)
Simon Willison: Embeddings: What they are and why they matter. Embeddings are a really neat trick that often come wrapped in a pile of intimidating jargon. (more)
