Paul Ford: Forget Growth. Optimize for Resilience. I cofounded a software company, like a doofus, so I attend a weekly analytics meeting. My cofounder runs “product”; I'm loosely in charge of “the funnel (growth team)... it's not really a funnel, more of a juicer.” (more)

A reminder that orientation (model-making) isn't something you do just when you hit that part of the OODA loop. Your worldview is always shaping your perceptions (Observation, Reflexivity), so you need to (a) be conscious of that process (eg recognize that even what you think is "objective data" isn't quite/really), (b) be good at pattern-matching, and (c) be open to data that breaks your mental model. Is this expertise, taste, or both?

not "over"-thinking? high agency?

Ian Alexander: Book Review: Donald Schon - The Reflective Practitioner. Readers of my reviews will know that I have been interested for some years in the dialogue between action (do something) and reflection, discussed admirably by John Heron and Peter Reason, and put into practice in their Co-operative Inquiry method. Donald Schön is one of the seemingly few people to have written about reflection and its role in professional life; it is a tricky subject, as it lies between the domains of academia and industry, and must be both theoretically accurate and practically useful to succeed fully. Similar to MetaCognition (but with more Iteration, Deliberate Practice) and Critical Thinking (but with more Self Awareness). (more)

In epistemology, and more specifically, the sociology of knowledge, reflexivity refers to circular relationships between cause and effect, especially as embedded in human belief structures. A reflexive relationship is bidirectional with both the cause and the effect affecting one another in a relationship in which neither can be assigned as causes or effects. (more)

Venkatesh Rao: The Use and Misuse of the OODA Loop. Boyd's famous OODA loop (observe-orient-decide-act) is probably the most misunderstood and misused diagram of practical significance in decision making. (more)

Dan Hon s21e23: The OODA loop. I’m doing a sort of virtual summer catchup tour and going on a walkabout: I made a list of interesting people I wanted to talk to just hear about what they’re working on (more)

Brett & Kate McCay: The Tao of Boyd: How to Master the OODA Loop.Perhaps his (John Boyd's) most significant contribution to military strategy, though, came from a series of briefings he gave. In them, Boyd laid out a way of thinking about conflict that would revolutionize warfare around the world. (more)

Ketamine, Depression, and the OODA Loop: How Ember Health Reorients the Patient Journey. Purpose can start as a conversation and grow into a clinic that saves lives. We sit down with Dr. Nico Grundmann and Tiffany Franke of Ember Health to explore how a marriage built on service turned into a patient‑centered model for IV ketamine that blends rigorous science, design thinking, and deep human care. The uncertainty principle, also known as Heisenberg's indeterminacy principle, is a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics. It states that there is a limit to the precision with which certain pairs of physical properties, such as position and momentum, can be simultaneously known. In other words, the more accurately one property is measured, the less accurately the other property can be known. More formally, the uncertainty principle is any of a variety of mathematical inequalities asserting a fundamental limit to the product of the accuracy of certain related pairs of measurements on a quantum system, such as position, x, and momentum, p.[1] Such paired-variables are known as complementary variables or canonically conjugate variables. First introduced in 1927 by German physicist Werner Heisenberg... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncertainty_principle (more)
