A Educating Kids tool to use up kids' "free" time in hopes of preventing them from ever thinking for themselves?

I can see a little value in this, as it gives kids time away from the teacher to make sure they understand a concept, as close-in-time as possible to the original "teaching", so they can ask for help/review (FeedBack). But there must be a better way....
