I just don't understand why neither MozIlla nor Ms Outlook have a simple filter for "sender appears in my address book" so you can have a (after-the-others) filter to move messages not meeting that condition to a probably-spam folder. I hope OSAF fixes this.

Some other approaches

• legal: penalize spammers for (a) sending from bogus addresses and (b) not honoring unsubs.

• try to identify likely spammers based on (a) sending address ([Black List]) (this rarely works now because of the bogus-address problem) or (b) the content (see Paul Graham work on Bayesian filtering).
