DisEnchanted from Jul'01 defending Annotation Systems like MsSmartTags. Dave Winer's reaction to Smart Tags punishes the reader for Microsoft's perceived transgression. Even though the system was "voluntary", I think this was an egregious case of Microsoft extending their software monopoly into the content business, by being the primary/default annotation publisher.
