(2003-05-30) Waste Net

Here's the mirror site for WASTE, the software product and protocol that enables secure distributed communication for small (on the order of 10-50 nodes) trusted groups of users, which appeared and then was yanked from the Null Soft site yesterday. A potential for OSAF/Chandler? Some utility code for Groove-killers?

Ray Ozzie notes I don't think people have any concept of how much sniffing is actually occurring out there, and how easy it has become since the explosion of WiFi. Also he notes a good reason for shutting down the site: But last I checked, encryption software still requires an export license, as it has for as long as I've been in this business.

Wes Felter thinks the protocol is junk.

Now there's threats against using the software.
