(2003-07-25) Foaf Relationships

One of my annoyances with FOAF has been the fuzziness of the 'knows' concept. Here are some interesting/current links:

• Ben Hammersley on how fully to identify one's friends without their permission. Mailhash is a good idea.

• Shelley Powers' concerns about too-much-Transparency, and the nuances of relationships.

• Mark Carey on FOAF for Reputation Management/Web Of Trust.

• Shelley Powers on Marc Canter's stated intent to extend the vocabulary following a relationship module - The key to a successful RDF/XML vocabulary is to keep it small, and to the point, and focused on the data of the business of the vocabulary... It will be interesting to see what Marc has in mind for this, in particular from a verification point of view. Whatever FOAF is, it isn't the Web Of Trust, and that's got me a bit concerned at this point - folks trying to make it into such.

• Dan Brickley on things that need fixing/specifying before FOAF is ready for mass evangelism/adoption.

Might it be interesting to use some of Ross Mayfield's Ecosystem Of Networks nomenclature? But, yeah, Privacy matters - I don't necessarily want to tell you who's in some of my Creative Network-s.
