(2004-08-02) Shirky Browser Writing

Clay Shirky on the horrors of Web Browser/Thin Client/Text Area as a writing environment. He makes 3 specific feature requests, and the comments from others have some useful bits.

Update: further discussion on the Auto Save request. I do a lot of writing on planes, and if I can neither save to MT in draft form (no connectivity) nor leave the browser open (no battery). (In other places, he notes a desire to also edit wiki and post comments, neither of which seems to apply to the airplane scenario.)

Update: much-later rantings by Adam Rifkin and Jon Udell. Do we really want a fancy plugin that saves at XML? What happens in a Mobile environment or other super-lite editor? I'd pitch for sticking with SmartAscii....
