George Pataki is trying to allow the creation of an unlimited number of Charter School-s, and to also double (from 100 to 200) the number of "independent" Public School-s in New York State. Yay for School Choice for Educating Kids In Nyc!

Nov update: it doesn't sound like he got anything settled, but Mike Bloomberg is aiming the same direction. It smells to me like he wants to Route Around the NYC educational bureaucracy, rather than trying to fight it, while Joel Klein seems more willing to fight.
