(2007-03-21) Orchard Twitter Tags

Les Orchard thinks that Twitter needs tags.

  • might be a challenge to include in 140chars

  • though WikiWord As Tag approach might help

  • but how much in Twitter is worth saving/finding?

    • do you want it saved forever? I guess in a Transparent Society everything is at risk of re-appearing. In a different Context, which is a problem.

    • how long do they keep old messages?

Aug update: Dave Winer has similar thoughts. So Les repeats his past links - then expands on the thought. I Commented.

Chris Messina supports the '#' identifier, and discusses various Group Forming models. There's a thread specific to the idea of group-list-limiting.

  • Stowe Boyd has been using that model. I find it really irritating to read.

  • update: this became the "official" Hash Tag approach.

Sept update: Twitter now supporting tracking of phrases. Just free-text exact matches, I guess. So 'East Village' and 'East Village' are 2 separate terms...
