(2007-07-27) Calcanis Drops Facebook

Jason Calcanis is opting out of FaceBook. One of the challenges with posts like this is that everyone (including the writer) tends to get confused over whether the question is:

  • whether Jason should personally keep using FaceBook for it's own value (he notes that there's more noise than signal there)

  • whether Jason should develop something for FaceBook's API (he notes the Walled Garden issue)

  • whether anyone should keep using FaceBook

  • whether anyone should develop for FaceBook's API.

It might also make sense to compare FaceBook with Vox and Twitter. Ways to communicate (mostly 1-way) with a Social Network. Are any of them really open? (Open Social Networking Model)
