I think I agree with Rubel, because I think that Social Networking is mainly about communicating, and the Portal-s who provide those tools (EMail, Instant Messaging) plus easy content filtering (feeds, both internally-managed and RSS-driven), will end with being hubs of integration, even with an Open Social Networking Model.
