(2007-12-12) Safe Wifi Porn Law
Nick Lampson, Democratic Party member of the House Of Representatives, sponsored the SAFE bill, to "protect the children" for pornography passed via open WiFi.. It passed 409-2 (only votes against: Ron Paul and Paul Broun). Someone providing a Wi-Fi connection probably won't have to worry about the SAFE Act's additional requirement of retaining all the suspect's personal files if the illegal images are "commingled or interspersed" with other data. But that retention requirement does concern Internet service providers (ISP-s), which would be in a position to comply. So would EMail service providers, including both Web-based ones (WebMail) and companies that offer POP or IMAP services. Shades of COPA?
