(2009-06-06) Cable Phone Fail

So, since I never got around to getting my home VoIP hardware working for My Family Phone Mix since last October, so I let Time Warner Cable talk me into their package.

But when the installer came, it turned out not to be feasible.

The combination of 3 factors killed things

• the Cable Modem is on the other side of the room from the analog phone jack (and running a cable between them, along the floor, would have had to go around the heating/AC unit along the window)

• we need the doorman intercom to connect to the phone

• our NYC apartment walls are too thick for a Cordless Phone to work from the far end of the apartment: just this morning I took the phone from the bedroom out as far as the dining room and the call dropped.

So I'll have to get around to the old VoIP hardware again. Though until Jihi starts travelling again, we really don't do that much long-distance anyway.
