(2010-02-15) Shatzkin Publishers Need Bookstores Vs Ebooks

Mike Shatzkin says that what the big Book Publishing companies really mainly offer at the strategic level is the ability to get books placed in Book Stores. And EBook-s are not good for physical Book Store-s. Therefore, it's in publisher's interest to slow down EBook adoption. Although the big publishers and big authors have been allies fighting Amazon’s selling policies because they want to preserve print-driven book pricing, in the longer run their interests diverge. As ebook sales keep rising as a percentage of the total, the big publishers’ position weakens and the big authors’ position strengthens.
