(2010-03-08) Battelle Database Of Intentions

John Battelle on his DatabaseOfIntentions Meta Model.

In 2003, he thought: The aggregate results of every search ever entered, every result list ever tendered, and every path taken as a result.

He has now recognized that lots more needs to be included, esp Social Software interactions. All of this begs a new definition of Search. I've often said that Search should not be defined by web search, but rather, by what a search is in the abstract. Update: he's including E Commerce transactions as well now.) Heading toward LifeBox?

Mar24 update: Why can’t I CheckIn to a website? An article? A state of mind? An emotion? Or…an object? (FourSquare) People were actually checking into brands through the use of that brand’s product. (with StickyBits, using BarCode-s)

Jul15: Imagine that instead of checking into a physical location, as FourSquare is mostly constrained today, I check into the State Of Mind I might call "In the market for a car." Or perhaps I check into "playing a great game of poker with my friends." Or maybe I check into "pretty bummed out about the death of my cat." Is that different from Twitter?

Given my interaction with lots of different services, this seems like something I'd like to run myself (Always On You). But I think Battelle's aiming toward generating data that has value for others, e.g. companies that want to sell me stuff, because he's seeking a new revenue stream.
