(2011-05-15) Rss Disappearing From Facebook And Twitter
Jesse Stay notes that RSS is disappearing from FaceBook and Twitter. It seems in 2011 and the era of Facebook and Twitter we've completely lost any care for open standards. Maybe it's not just RSS that is dying - it's the entire premise of open standards that is dying, and I think that's really sad, and really bad for not just developers, but users in general.
Twitter seems to blame their removal of RSS on their adoption of OAuth and dropping of BasicAuth. (This shouldn't matter for pulling in an individual user's feed, though it would matter for pulling in your aggregated inbox, which I guess is how most people used it.)
- G Tweet might work.
- I wonder how many RssAggregator-s support OAuth. I know Twitter had screwed things up for Open Source aggregators - 2010-09-03-OauthFailEspTwitter - has that improved? (And of course that wouldn't apply to Google Reader.)
