(2011-10-20) Google Ssl Search Results Kills Referer

Having nudged GMail users over to SSL in the past, Google is starting to bump sign-in search users there also. This has some Privacy benefits for users on unsecured HotSpot-s.

But it will cause problems for services/sites dependent on the Referer data being passed by the Web Browser. This will affect SEO analysis and the targeting by 3rd party Ad Network-s. Even Google Analytics won't be able to help you. The fact that data will be passed along on AdWords click-throughs make this seem like a double-standard.
