(2011-12-08) Time Machine Backup Disk Image Could Not Be Created

I've had Time Machine problems regularly with my MacBookPro since moving its Back Up to the IOmega - 2011-06-11-Time CapsuleGettingFull -

  • sometimes the disk isn't even visible in the "Select disk" popup of the Time Machine sysprefs, sometimes it's visible but you get a "osstatus error 2" message
  • these are generally solved by restart the Time Capsule and sometimes the IOmega (then the Time Capsule).

But getting a different problem just starting today, with popup alert "The backup disk image could not be created.".. "error 22".

Following this and this I changed my Sharing name to remove all punctuation (it had spaces and an apostrophe). That didn't help.

Changed the local hostname in the same Sharing control panel. Still no good.

Dec09: changed the name of the Time Capsule itself to eliminate spaces and punctuation, as that was also recommended. Now I can't seem to "see" the IOmega at all! "The backup disk is not available". And the IMac can't back up to the Time Capsule itself now!

Feb08: updating Time Capsule firmware.

Mar09: got back to this, was now able to get the Back Up working for the IMac and MacBook (to the Time Capsule). Now have to play with the IOmega.

  • update: IOmega is working too!
