(2012-01-13) Nyc Academy For Software Engineering
NYC will start a new Public School Academy For Software Engineering. (Educating Kids In Nyc, Computer Programming)
It will be located near Union Square, to be near lots of software Start Up-s. (Yay, not Roosevelt Island!)
Half the staff for the new schools will come from Washington Irving, which is being phased out.
Initial funding is coming from Fred Wilson!
Mar03 update from Fred Wilson.
Mar'2013: Jennifer Miller on how the execution veered away from Mike Zamansky's original vision, to become more of a Vo-Tech school.
- Dave Winer has a view, with comments by Fred Wilson and Mike Zamansky. (I Commented)
- Miller's article notes Zamansky's current focus on CSTUY, "Computer Science and Technology for Urban Youth". Zamansky has a post about the presentations made at their recent event. While each talk was different, there were common themes: Do something you're passionate about; Build stuff and do stuff; Journey can begin in unexpected ways. (cf How To Be A High School Superstar)
- Zamansky currently uses Python/Flask in his Stuyvesant High School classes.
- Zamansky had an interesting blog post on evaluating schools (esp the IBM/P Tech school in Brooklyn Ny) in February.
