(2015-05-04) Iannotate Annotation At Scale

The I Annotate conference was in April, with one focus being "AnnotatIon At Scale".

The Meedan team summarizes:

• anything can be annotated
• a lot of media items receive likes (Like Button), retweets and shares
• these annotations aren’t necessarily interoperable (InterOp), and there’s no easy way to aggregate them into one place (IndieWeb).
• we need to make better use of moderation and filtering tools to help make sense (Sense Making) of the number of annotations being generated across different communities and Context-s
• We need to develop more specific use cases and frameworks that inspire people to participate
• some other annotation tools we took note of during the conference: Word Nik and its API, Paper O, Pon Ga, HypothesIs. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t include a plug for Check Desk, our software for verifying breaking news online.
