(2020-09-16) Imac Won't Talk To HP Scanner
We recently bought an HP Printer - HP OfficeJet Pro 9010. We're running an Eero network around the house.
My MacBookPro will print and scan fine.
But TheWife's iMac will print, but won't scan. (error -9923
)
I rebooted, no help.
I tried Apple Image Capture, but got the same error. (Our iMac isn't running Catalina, it's running el-Capitan!)
Trying this
- reset printer setup, then try scanning with Image Capture. Nope
- no HP folder, just HP Smart app - trash it.
~/Library/Printers/
is empty;/Library/Printers/
has some older things, no HP - empty it anyway. Empty Trash. Restart. - go to http://123.hp.com/, enter model number (actually the "9010 series"). It says I can print using AirPrint or with USB, don't need any software. Check for precise model, it's actually the 9015. Enter that, get the same response.
- go to try printing something, it recognizes nearby printer, when I select that it does some setup. I tell it to print, it works. Now I see the HP app there. I hit the Scanner button. Get

again. Try Image Capture, same thing.

Search hp.com for the 9015 driver, download, run updater. "Device Discovery" recognizes both IP and Bonjour. Picking either one get "This Firmware Updater does not contain upgrades for your device." Does that mean I'm current? Yes.
Try hp.com diagnostic tools?
- No app for Mac.
- Try the Virtual Agent. It basically walks me through same instructions as the link above. (Which I don't repeat following.) Ending with "Sorry, we couldn't find a solution."
Hrm try 3rd party https://123hpcom.tech/hp-officejet-pro-9015/? Nope
Am I going to play with IPv6 and/or a hard reset?
- not tonight
- try tweeting
Get response from HP which isn't super helpful
- can't find "HP Utility" to download, I suspect it's been discontinued
- can't install "HP Smart" because it requires MacOsX 10.12
Try the printer's web-page
- WebScan is disabled. Find the Settings/Admin and enable it.
- hey now I can scan from there, and it works. (So that's kinda a solution.)
- tried the Scan app again, and it still doesn't work. Likewise Image Capture. How crazy.
