Cell Phone/MobIle based on Open Source software, Open Standards
[Tux Phone] is a DIY version that works on existing TelCo (GSM) carriers. http://www.opencellphone.org
What could the benefit be?
create better User Interface than the TelCo-s
add/integrate functions that the TelCo-s won't support
use P2P Mesh Network approach? z2005-06-09- Open Cellphone
why?
because sometimes is TelCo Infra Structure is over-loaded or broken (e.g. Hurricane Katrina)
to try and Route Around the TelCo pricing, at least enough to possibly create a little competition
Bob Frankston: If we simply had 802.11 coverage connected to an abundant backbone the cellular industry would instantly cease to exist because it creates no value.
is this realistic?
does Vo Ip Over Wi Fi get you close to that?
