Spreading Digital Gardens

How increase the spread of digital garden spaces, esp publicly-readable (outer) digital gardens?

(The 2024 rehash of Spreading Wikiweblog, etc.) A path toward growing Webs Of Thinkers And Thoughts.

• I was looking for some meta/macro Garden term stronger than ecosystem, but not identical like clonal colony.... some ballooning spider seems related.....

The Parallel Writing cohorts that Ward Cunningham and Mike Caufield have instigated over the years seem to have potential. The issue was that those situations were often event-oriented, or closed-group-driven (a semester class), and few participants continued to use their space afterward.

Would a stronger integration with social media, esp Mastodon, help? Esp if combined with RSS and TwinPages?

What about this cluster of features?

• associate a site/garden+RSS feed with a given Mastodon account (maybe do identity verification this way?)
• have a client style of integrating RSS entries with Mastodon nodes, not unlike FriendFeed integrating a creator's multiple RSS feeds plus Twitter/etc?
• such a client might also recognize double-brackets in a toot, and auto-link to that tooter's page
• An interesting "issue" around RSS is that it's not really designed for pages that you keep updating forever, as opposed to Publishing/freezing. When someone's actively editing a page, you wouldn't want to get a Toot for every save. Still..... what if a save could include a Change Comment (like a Commit Message), and any such save would "generate" a "virtual" toot....
