Two Economies

Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

I think there really is a New Economy. But I think there's still an Old Economy too.
There seem to be 2 economic cultures in America. There's the Old Economy: mechanistic, hierarchical, based on efficiency, low-cost (low-wage), and high scale (Scale Vs Consolidation). Then there's the New Economy, which is organic/chaotic/dynamic, small-scale, quality-oriented, networked, life-as-Performance Art, etc. (Creative Class, BoBos, The Craft). Both "forces" or trends seem to be getting stronger at the same time.
What will this mean in the future? Increasing income disparity (and more importantly, less fluidity)?
