Wes Felter posting and thread on hosting your own online identit(ies), including Jabber presence. What the heck is PingID going to offer?
Sam Ruby (who started the thread) notes : To many seem to assume that centralization is the only way to get scalability and reliability. Every Hosted Server I have dealt with has quotas, down time, and limitations on the services they provide (example: no full text indexing)... P2P shows that there are alternatives to static IP addresses. Perhaps the right place for my E Wallet is in my back pocket (Always On You). To which Kimbro Staken replies : I just can't help but wonder if maybe the right place for this is on my IPaq or my Lap Top rather then a server. This is an idea I've actually had for a while. At one of my old companies we were working on this problem and the logical approach then and probably still today is Smart Card-s.
