(2003-05-14) Distinguish Wiki Links

A GUI question - might it make sense to make WikiWord/local links look different from external links (e.g. dotted underline vs solid underline)? It wouldn't make sense in a Wiki For CollaborationWare context, but maybe in a WikiLog scenario. But on the other hand, that kinda implies that the external link is the "most special", when often it's 1 (or more) of the wiki links that are more key... so I don't think I'll do that.

If you did make wiki vs. external links look different, then perhaps wiki links to unmade pages could look different still. Though I think 3 link styles would lead to clutter.

Wikis? Clutter? Naaah. It's interesting, though, to see your expanded wiki words Bill. Have you noticed if it makes funnily capped single words like Python and Zope (ugh) look better or worse? I had written (and disposed of) a long entry about the difficulty in reading Wikis, and how my brain typically has to remap itself for any non-wikipedia situation. Seeing the blue square brace ends for an unmade page causes much less confusion than question marks littered around a sentence. They still cause some minor brain stoppage (having to take a second or third look instead of just being able to read in a stream) due to their different color than the opening brace. But it's much better than suddenly hearing the internal voice go up like a question in unexpected spots. - Jeffrey P Shell
