(2003-09-04) Haughey Pretty Wiki

Matt Haughey took Php Wiki and tweaked it to output XHTML with CSS to make extremely non-Ugly Wiki pages. The first big obstacle was finding a wiki package that produced simple, valid HTML that didn’t harm semantics. “WikiWiki” means “quick” in hawaiian and after looking at several packages, it seems the engineers that coded them were working quickly too. I could see how most relied on ugly hacks and awful html to display content, which is the nature of fast web application production. Each page even has a link at the bottom to view the SmartAscii source. I wish:

  • he had some longer wiki-like pages of content (many layers of 'ul') to show how the layout works for that stuff

  • he'd now convert his weblog from MovableType to a WikiLog.
