(2006-01-28) Guide Web Frameworks

Guido Van Rossum is taking a look at various Python Web Framework-s. Lots of comments (a number of them being anti-SqlObject; some of those same people are pro-SqlAlchemy).

James Tauber points to a recent piece of his with more of a ReST focus. He likes WebPy almost as much as his own stuff, but might move to CherryPy...

Stefane Fermigier points to a Concept Map (Mind Map) linking the various shared components in some of the megaFrameworks.

Guido has a follow-up. In one of the comments Kevin Marks suggests using XOXO as a generate Template System.

Jan31: Guido updates again, going through why he's preferring Django's Template System to Cheetah.

  • Feb4: Having just half-completed the conversion of one page (about 20%) of my internal Google app to Django templates (no others parts of Django used at this time), I still believe that a DOM-style approach would be much more painful, in part because of the separation between HTML and presentation logic.

And again about his dislike of XML for a Template System or any other human-editable scenario (config files, etc.).

Paul Everitt doesn't think Zope gets a fair shake.
