(2008-02-11) Att Takes Starbucks Wifi

ATT is replacing T-Mobile as the StarBucks WiFi partner.

(I finally got around to activating my OLPC T-Mobile account, and haven't even tried using it yet...)

But it sounds like rates will be much lower (free for 2hrs/day if you have a Starbucks card).

T-Mobile notes T-Mobile HotSpot customers can continue to enjoy Wi-Fi access at Starbucks locations for at least the next five years under an agreement between T-Mobile USA and AT&T. There will be no additional charge for T-Mobile HotSpot customers at Starbucks locations.

Joel West connects the spread of Free Wifi to Earth Link's desire to exit the Municipal Wifi business.

Jun02'2008 update: T-Mobile is suing StarBucks over the transition process.

Jun11'2008 update: they've resolved things.
