(2008-04-17) Photo Sync

Tim Bray notes how he's doing Data Synch of his Photo-s across two MacOs X machines. I want all my pictures on both the MacBook (from which I blog) and the Pro (on which I plan to edit)... I want to edit mostly on the Pro but sometimes on the laptop, and I don't see why this should be hard. He's using Light Room. He ends up using R Synch to synch things.

I have similar issues, using IPhoto.

  • They've made it harder to move things around now by hiding the fact that your iPhoto library is just a big directory of files. From the Command Line you can dig down, though I don't know whether making changes would result in some really nasty breakage.

  • At the moment I've been moving toward making Jihi's IMac the master repository, since she says she'll do some tweaking (cropping, etc.), and ordering prints of stuff she wants (she's still a big believer in physical albums). But she hates seeing some of the weird images that I make/save. Hmm, maybe I'll just make a separate album to move those into.
