(2010-06-28) Time Capsule New Uverse Ssid
Lost voice service (UVerse) yesterday, even while Internet and TV worked fine.
They swapped their router today, which made everything work again.
But had to get everything (including everyone's Android phones) working with the new WiFi SSID.
The Time Capsule was trickiest: had to do hard reset.
Aug'2012 update: another UVerse modem (RG) box swap. Writing more detailed Time Capsule notes now:
- desktop is already connected to Time Capsule by ethernet cable
- turn off AirPort on desktop (someone said this avoids confusing the Time Capsule)
- launch Airport Utility - still don't see Time Capsule
- do hard reset on the Time Capsule - now it appears
- set name of Time Capsule - I use name with no spaces or punctuation because of previous experience
- go to Wireless tab. Hold down Option key while clicking on pulldown of options so that "Extend a network" and others get a new "Join an existing network" option - choose that. Use pulldown to pick the UVerse SSID, enter (twice) the password for the UVerse box. Hit Update button. Time Capsule reboots, then light turns green!
- turn on desktop AirPort again
- get Time Machine working
- choose "Enter Time Machine" menu (on desktop) - it works, so old backups are available.
- choose "Back Up Now" menu (on desktop): works fine
- choose "Back Up Now" menu on MacBook Pro (wireless backup to IOmega connected to Time Capsule): works fine
