(2010-09-24) Aerbook Monocle
Monocle is an Open Source Browser Based Ebook Reader. 25kb of JavaScript, uses CSS-3. Monocle is designed for EPub. Well, ultimately it doesn't care if the source of the text is zipped up, DRM locked down, whether your TOC is in the NCX or plucked from a YAML file — it doesn't handle unwrapping all the packaging. But the core tenets of the standard: XHTML files with a defined linear progression, and optionally a nested hierarchy of sections or chapters — that's supported. In full colour. What's better than a browser for rendering XHTML?
Aer Book is a commercial app built on top of it. Give us sample chapters, or an entire book, and [aerbook] will provide you with a web and mobile, page-flipping reader that can be easily shared with no download or installation necessary. Built atop the Monocle eReader platform, [aerbook]‘s reader is enhanced with Tweet and Facebook Like buttons, links to your book’s homepage, and a link to a purchase page for the print or other eBook editions. It’s the best way to give potential readers an experience of the book, and it works as well on the web as it does on the iPad, iPhone, or Android mobile phones.
