(2011-10-11) Simplest Thing Splash Page
Want to get a Simplest Thing Splash Page up for solicitin prospects for Problem Interview-s, following Running Lean process.
Have decided I don't need fancy services like Launch Rock/Un Bounce.
Still have to decide between adding to my existing personal Blue Host account, vs getting super-cheap host from Hosting Dude where the Domain is registered.
- hmm, for legal purposes should probably keep away from the Blue Host. Which reminds me, I probably need to form an LLC.
- after doing some reading, not going to worry much about this factor for now, will deal with legal stuff when I get to having an actual paying product. (Rob Walling says he's still a Sole Prop - of course he live in another country without the same culture of lawsuits...)
Stole Ash Maurya's UserCycle Splash Page, and started tweaking!
Need to plan for MailChimp and Google Analytics involvement.
- set up Google Analytics account, get code - done
- set up MailChimp list, generate form
- I was going to have just the email address in the form and embed it in the Splash Page itself, but decided that I'm going to be seeking conversations, so names matter.
- wow MailChimp has no way to embed a Google Analytics code in its hosted forms, so you have to manually save/customize/host those pages!?
- Not true! You can provide (go to List/Tools) your GA code and then it gets included in your form.
- make custom Thank You page with Google Analytics code in it, put on site
- put Google Analytics code on Splash Page
Get things loaded on server
- argh turn on "WebSiteTonight" service for domain which is G[[UI]] page editor - can't get to raw HTML, etc. Once I turn it off, it can take hours before I can access the raw hosting account! I hate the Hosting Dude UI.
- Oh, good, it only took 5min to be able to get into hosting.
OK it's up! Go sign up!
