(2011-11-01) Stager10 Things Laptop
Gary Stager gave a talk on "10 things to do with a Lap Top" (OLPC, Educational Technology).
- write a Novel (NaNoWriMo)
- share information: kids should be publishing
- answer tough questions (Real World, not Curriculum) ("who should I vote for?")
- We question Wikipedia, but not Pearson. (Censorship)
- make sense of data (Statistics, Mathematica)
- design a Video Game (Systems Thinking, Program Or Be Programmed)
- build a killer Robot (even in Kinder Garten)
- Lose Weight
- Direct a Blockbuster (Video)
- Compose a symphony
- Change The World - Civic Action
-
- Be a mathematician, scientist, etc.
Technology matters, because it allows for a broader range of project/experiences (Project Based Learning) than ever before. Which makes memories.
Aside from the list, his overall message is about giving kids Agency-based challenge.
Related: Stager's not a fan of BYOD policies that lead toward many students having Tablet-s/NetBook-s.
