(2014-01-25) Bluehost Is Cpu Throttling Moinmoin

I had been noticing how slow this WikiLog was performing for months. I finally realized that Blue Host has been "CpuThrottling" the server - 90% of the time! They weren't able, at least in a couple emails, to narrow it down beyond it being MoinMoin (duh), nor did they tell me anything that gave me a clue to go looking after (most of their documentation on it is about slow MySQL queries).

But I knew full-text search was unusably slow on the site (Cloning Zwiki With Moinmoin), and I knew I could cheat and redirect that to Google, so I decided to spend a little time doing that, rather than going down the diagnostics rabbithole.

So I ended up making changes in /search/__init__.py in the _get_searcher() function. (Title searches still stay on-site.)

Since rolling it out yesterday afternoon, only a couple hours have had more than 100sec/hr of throttling, whereas before most hours were over 3000sec/hr.

So things are much better, and I'm not going to bother with it anymore for now.
