(2016-08-03) Nexus6 No Cell Data

This (Wednesday) morning after I left home I realized I was getting no cell-data service on my Nexus Six. Voice and SMS still worked, but no data. WiFi worked. Spent half a day back-and-forth with T-Mobile. Multiple reboots, taking out the SIM card, resetting network options, etc.

Finally, after the 2nd time taking out the SIM card, it worked.

Then, on the way home, I discovered I was getting no cell-data again (while in the office I'm on WiFi, so don't know how soon after working it would have stopped working).

I turned it off, took out SIM, let it sit for 10min. Reassembled and turned on. It worked.

Decided to check my notes, and oh my! 2015-04-02-Nexus6NoCell.

I hope I don't have to replace this one.

Thurs morning: no data again. Just turning off phone for 5min doesn't help. Don't have time to pay with SIM card.

Now (on WiFi) go alert to Android update - ok let's try that.

Thurs night: no data, and now no SMS! (Voice still works.)

Fri AM: did the SIM/yank, and everything is working for now. (Later in day: dead again. No SMS/data.)

Fri PM: go to T-Mobile store and get new SIM. Working. (Later that night: dead again.)

Sat AM: T-Mobile first has me turn off GPS, which works for awhile. Then doesn't. Then T-Mobile says uninstall update to GoogleConnectivityServices and reinstall prev version. Now working again.

Sat pm: still good! And here's article describing that this is a widespread problem with that Android update.

  • hrm I now have Build MOB30W that sounds newer not older. So maybe I did it wrong and am just lucky. Will try article's method if problem recurs.

Sun AM: still good!

Sun Aug04 (a week later): dead again! Do the exact process at the link above, and it's back.
