Ethereum is a public Block Chain-based distributed computing platform, featuring Smart Contract functionality.[1] It provides a decentralized virtual machine, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), that can execute peer-to-peer (P2P) contracts using a CryptoCurrency (DigiCash) called ether. Ethereum was initially proposed in late 2013 by VitalikButerin, a cryptocurrency researcher and programmer. Development was funded by an online crowd sale during July‚ÄďAugust 2014.[2] Following a compromise of The DAO (DAC), Ethereum's blockchain was forked and the resulting blockchains have become known as Ethereum and Ethereum Classic.
