This could serve various purposes:
running [Home Automation] apps: security, remote control of air conditioning, etc. (all stuff that nobody seems to want so far)
hub of entertainment systems (web-based control of stereo sending tunes to speakers in other room) (Media Center, TiVo)
Proxy Server: annotations, filtering, etc.
File Sharing of [Personal Media] (family photos, etc.)
something to plug the local hardware (Digital Camera) into
local BackUp of data (binary media objects and Meta Data?) that's mostly on a Hosted Server
Micro Soft is partnering with Samsung to build these in the future.
[Rearden Steel], founded by WebTV inventor [Steve Perlman], is also in this business.
Is a normal consumer going to want to run anything web-by on this (as a Full Peer)? Like a Web Server for their WebLog? I can't imagine wanting to worry about data BackUp, DOS attacks on their stereo, etc.
