(2003-05-29) Bray Css Hell

Tim Bray recounts his CSS hell, and ties it to discussions involving Dave Winer and Robert Scoble on whether MsIE is "dead".

I perceive Robert Scoble as now being a "flack". I won't be giving too much sympathy to him or other "good Microsoft-ians".

Thankfully my aging Lap Top still runs OK on Win98, so I don't have to deal with Win[[XP]] yet. It's my hope to switch to LinuxOS or MacOs X instead. When I was at Axiom Legal we bought our stuff in the last days of Win2 K, thus avoiding XP. Unfortunately we bought into the whole MsExchange nightmare, but I won't make that mistake again. I'm using Mozilla instead of MsIE and MsOutlook; I look forward to switching to OSAF/Chandler (with Mozilla's Gecko rendering). I'm glad that WebLog templates have encourage simple-enough design to reduce the impact of CSS hell, but I'm buying Jeffrey Zeldman's book to help me through it. I'm using OpenOffice on the rare occasion I need such MsOffice-type documents. And I'm hoping to help move forward along a BootStrapping Collaboration Roadmap.
