(2012-07-16) Mayer New Yahoo Ceo
Marissa Mayer has left Google to become the new Yahoo CEO. If she pulls off a Turn Around then she'll deserve anything she gets...
Marc Andreessen has some advice.
Douglas Rushkoff thinks Google's over-focus on Social Networking (Google Plus) has taken away its interest in the plain/open World Wide Web (as indicated, for example, by this week's announcement of I Google getting cancelled), and Marissa may use that as an opening for Yahoo (Portal).
David Carr says her biggest requirement is to define what Yahoo is (Business Model) (I agree). He thinks they're a Media company, and need more proprietary content. I think that being an attractive/simple Portal is probably sufficient, with some rev-share deals to keep pageviews on Yahoo (but still lots of offsite-link aggregation/curation).
Phil Jones does a great job of playing with ideas.
- The TV area sounds promising. I'd probably be inclined to aim for the lowest-tech method of getting Yahoo has the 2nd-screen community-partner for network programs. Maybe buy Get Glue? 2010-10-20-WilsonSusterTvFuture Could be very hard to beat FaceBook in this arena...
