National Convention

part of the Presidential Election process.

Used to be intended to resolve who the candidates for US President and Us Vice President would be.

But since that's always settled in advance these days, what is the point of having it?

  • free advertising on TV (even if the networks cover less and less each time)?

  • To gather together rich folks to fleece more money from them?

  • To reward the Party Hack-s to keep the fleecing machine going?

  • Jeff Jarvis suggests changes to make it relevant again. Which are really changes to the Two Party System overall...

And since the process is designed to be surprise-free, why do 15,000 people need to cover it?

  • WalterMears said it's a Class Reunion for Big Media people. But I don't think these companies piss money away like that these days.

  • Jeff Jarvis explains what he would do if he ran a news department

  • maybe it's a form of Reality Tv, trying to catch a screw-up for everyone's amusement?

  • Should WebLog authors just Boycott the bloody thing?

    • one idea: pick a single issue and spend the whole time trying to get a clear policy plank from someone in the campaign.
