Processing
Processing is an Open Source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and sound (Multimedia). It is used by students, artists, designers, architects, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook (NoteBook) and professional production tool.

The Processing environment is written in Java. Programs written in Processing are also translated to Java and then run as Java programs. Programs written in Java and Processing will usually run faster than programs based on scripting languages like Action Script and Lingo, which is important for many graphics applications.
