(2004-10-29) Bray Beattie Cellphone Laptop

Tim Brayfocuses [on](http://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/200x/2004/10/28/Russell Boom) his Lap Top and wants a vanilla Cell Phone.

Russell Beattie think's he's nuts. In just a couple of years, every single person who works in technology is going to be doing something related to mobile phones. I'm not sure I believe that, because mis-pricing by the TelCo industry and device/standard fragmentation is going to slow down Critical Mass adoption of any approach to communication. Unless maybe a Killer App changes things, but the whole TelCo structure makes that less likely.

I'm also not clear why a large chunk of software functionality won't be covered by a simple Web Browser/Thin Client on the phone.
