Enterprise Facilitation, International Development, Economic Development
author [Ripples From The Zambezi] (ISBN:0865713979 )
heavily influenced by E F Schumacher, [Carl Rogers]; also a reference to Robert Putnam's [Making Democracy Work]
focus is on Enterprise Facilitation, but expands scope to Educating Kids and other Small World/Engage Ment issues.
concerned about Scalabil Ity of his approach - if you look at most of his results, in various small-population areas, he's facilitating projects that create mostly One Man Show-s, and end up with net job creation of roughly 1% of the population. Which, if we assume only half the population is in a position to be employed, means a 2% decrease in Un Employment. Which is certainly better than 0, and gives good return on the cost, and helps those who perhaps deserve it most, and is a great Small World story, but doesn't seem terribly relevant at the macro level.
also, he seems to focus on Rural Development, maybe because fixed costs are lower there, but that's counter to Jane Jacobs' Cities And The Wealth Of Nations argument about all sustainable development being Urban Development.
but still, a great Small World pattern
